Pınar Öğrenci is an artist and writer based in Istanbul. Her MOBILE TALK at the Helsinki Art Museum (HAM) will offer the audience an overview of her prolific artistic production.

The talk will take place on Wednesday the 15th February at 5-7 pm in the HAM Hall (2nd Floor, Eteläinen Rautatiekatu 8, 00100 Helsinki).
This Mobile Talk will be held in English.
Free admission.

Pınar Öğrenci will be staying at a MOBILE-Residency in Helsinki from the 14th until the 22nd of February and is scheduled to return in autumn 2017. In Spring, Pinar will be the first resident of MOBILE-Resident in Athens, a part of a platform which Perpetuum Mobile is developing in the context of the Athens Biennial. This residency is funded by a new programme PM is developing in cooperation with European Alternatives, which is funded by the Creative Europe programme of the EU.

This MOBILE TALK is curated by Perpetuum Mobile (PM) and co-organized by PM in cooperation with HAM Helsinki Art Museum and the Live Art and Performance Studies MA programme, Theatre Academy Helsinki / UniArts. Special thanks to Professor Ray Langenbach.

BIO / BACKGROUND

Pınar Öğrenci (b. 1973, Van, Turkey) is an artist with an architectural background, an activist and a writer. Based in Istanbul, she is the founder and organizer of MARSistanbul, an art initiative launched in 2010. Öğrenci uses various media in her artistic practice, including photography, video, film, performance and installation. Her works address subjects such as migration, war, nationalism, cultural assimilation or collective celebrations, and include stories of heroism and urban transformation. Her works have been exhibited widely at museums and art institutions including at MAXXI Museum, Rome, 2015-6; SALT Galata, Istanbul, 2015-6; Angewandte, Vienna, 2016, De Las Fronteras Biennial, Tamaulipas, 2015; Sinop Biennial, 2014; Çanakkale Biennial, 2014 and Depo, Istanbul, 2014.
