Iraq is a country which the world cannot ignore. Western forces are back in Iraq as its own army has not been prepared to fight the Islamic state, which has continued its expansion. Iraq’s fragmentation influences also Europe as an increasing number of Iraqi refugees escape the violence. The seminar organized by the Finnish Institute in the Middle East and the University of Helsinki looks at the recent events in Iraq in a wider context, and addresses possible modes of solution and economic prospects of the country.
