Espoo, Finland – In recent months, the Religions for Peace Women of Faith Network in
Finland has remained active in its efforts to promote interfaith dialogue, gender equality, and
peacebuilding initiatives, continuing its work from grassroots to national levels. Since its
establishment in 2010, the network has been working to unite women from different religious
traditions to address critical social issues, including violence against women, and to promote
peace within their communities.
The network, which emerged as part of the global Religions for Peace movement, continues
to focus on the Restoring Dignity Initiative, a key project aimed at ending violence against
women. This initiative connects religious communities across Finland to mobilize efforts for
a more inclusive society and to address the challenges faced by women from various faiths.
The Women of Faith Network in Finland has worked to establish various forums for
dialogue, fostering understanding among diverse religious groups and emphasizing the
importance of women’s voices in peacebuilding.
Notably, the network organized several events in 2023, including interfaith seminars and
collaborative workshops with religious leaders and organizations across Finland. These
events aimed to raise awareness about the intersection of gender, religion, and peace. One of
the significant highlights of their work is the promotion of interfaith cooperation, evidenced
by their participation in joint initiatives with Christian, Muslim, and Jewish leaders in Finland
to tackle issues such as domestic violence and religious intolerance.
Additionally, the network has supported the “Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence Against
Women” campaign, contributing to global and local efforts to raise awareness and push for
policy changes. Their commitment to this cause is a testament to the organization’s dedication
to ensuring that religious women are not only heard but are active participants in shaping the
discourse around peace and justice.
Despite the challenges, including limited funding for local activities, the network remains a
crucial part of the international dialogue on religious communities and their role in building a
peaceful, just, and inclusive society. The Religions for Peace Women of Faith Network in
Finland continues to seek funding to support its important work and sustain its efforts toward
a more harmonious Finland and beyond.
