——-

The Anna Lindh Foundation is organising a Regional Training for Trainers on Intercultural Citizenship Education in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The training is addressed to educators in the formal and non-formal education sector.

The training will be based on the capacity building methodology on intercultural dialogue developed by a team of experts coordinated by the Anna Lindh Foundation using as main educational reference the Anna Lindh Foundation Education Handbook on Intercultural Citizenship in the Euro-Med region and including the presentation of intercultural citizenship education concepts, interactive learning and testing activities on the competences and notions presented and exchange of educational practices among the participants.

The training will be carried out in English and French for 5 days, scheduled tentatively from 25 to 31 March (including traveling dates) in Malta. Following the face-to-face training educators should commit to organise educational activities in their respective communities and will be accompanied in this process through a mentorship scheme.

BACKGROUND

This training is part of the Anna Lindh Foundation Intercultural Learning Programme. The programme is the fruit of a consultative and participatory process which started in 2010 with the ALF main partners, educators and experts in the field of education. Those stakeholders concurred on the need to conceive a regional education programme to accompany the ongoing changes witnessed in the region in order to prepare the people of the region to live and be active within multi-cultural societies.

On the basis of their main recommendations, the ALF identified the production of a Handbook for educators as the first priority to support the action of people on the ground and as a tool for policy orientation. Following a series of expert meetings and conventions, the ALF coordinated the development of the ALF Education Handbook on Intercultural Citizenship Education in the Euro-Mediterranean Region.

The Handbook is conceived as a tool to provide knowledge and skills for teaching and learning about values of dialogue, pluralism, respect, social participation and social cohesion which can enhance the role of the “EuroMed Intercultural Citizen” as an agent of change within multi-cultural societies.

The Handbook provides an overview about key concepts related to intercultural citizenship education with a clear focus on the Euro-Mediterranean region and presents case stories and concrete activities to be developed in the formal and non-formal education sectors.

On the basis of this resource, the ALF is putting in place a capacity-building programme on Intercultural Citizenship Education for the creation of a pool of multipliers trained in the use of the Anna Lindh Foundation Education Handbook on Intercultural Citizenship and committed to the organization of educational activities and dissemination of the resource.
