Post revolution Tunisia: the challenges and the role of civil society

26.10.2015 - 26.10.2015

Tapahtuman kuvaus

What’s going on in Tunisia, a country that has been praised for its post-revolution democratization process during the last five years? In the context of the turmoil in other Middle Eastern and North African countries, the political and social developments in Tunisia seem most interesting and promising. As a recognition for the process, the Nobel Peace Prize 2015 was awarded to a group of four Tunisian civil society organisations for their role in the national dialogue. But how much do we really know about the situation on the ground?

Come and meet Ghazi ben Ahmed from Tunisia, who is the founder and head of Mediterranean Development Initiative Tunis, a local think tank working to foster economic growth and competitiveness. He is also coordinating the Tunisian goals for the EU Neighborhood policy from the civil society perspective. He has worked for almost 10 years in the European Commission in Brussels, in addition to working for the African Development Bank and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

The event is organized by Anna Lindh Foundation Finland and the Finnish Institute in the Middle East.
